چکیده

Symmetry breaking induced by top quark loops from a model without scalar mass. Abstract Considering the standard model as an eeective electroweak theory, in which we have no scalar mass term in the Higgs potential (2 = 0), we show that the spontaneous symmetry breaking of SU(2) L U(1) can be induced by top loops. The Higgs boson mass obtained is smaller than 300 GeV.

A Tumbling Top-Quark Condensate Model

We propose a renormalizable model with no fundamental scalars which breaks itself in the manner of a “tumbling” gauge theory down to the standard model with a top-quark condensate. Because of anomaly cancellation requirements, this model contains two color sextet fermions (quixes), which are vector-like with respect to the standard model gauge group. The model also has a large number of pseudo-...

Top-Bottom Splitting in Technicolor with Composite Scalars

We present a model of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking in which the splitting between the top and bottom quark masses arises naturally. The W and Z masses are produced by a minimal technicolor sector, the top quark mass is given by the exchange of a weak-doublet technicolored scalar, and the other quark and lepton masses are induced by the exchange of a weak-doublet technicolor-singlet s...

Self-Breaking of the Standard Model Gauge Symmetry

If the gauge fields of the Standard Model propagate in TeV-size extra dimensions, they rapidly become strongly coupled and can form scalar bound states of quarks and leptons. If the quarks and leptons of the third generation propagate in 6 or 8 dimensions, we argue that the most tightly bound scalar is a composite of top quarks, having the quantum numbers of the Higgs doublet and a large coupli...

The electroweak symmetry breaking Higgs boson in models with top-quark condensation

The top quark may get its large mass not from a fundamental scalar but a NambuJona-Lasinio mechanism involving a strongly coupled gauge sector that triggers topquark condensation. Forbidding a large hierarchy in the gap equation implies that top quark condensation is a spectator to electroweak symmetry breaking, which must be accomplished mainly by another sector. The properties of the electrow...

D ec 1 99 5 UCL - IPT - 95 - 22 Is the standard Higgs scalar elementary ?

In the standard electroweak model, the measured top quark mass requires a sizeable Yukawa coupling to the fundamental scalar. This large coupling alone might induce a dynamical breaking of the electroweak symmetry as well as non-perturbative effects. If such is the case, even a standard Higgs scalar as light as 80 GeV should have a non-negligible tt̄ component induced by the top condensate. ∗Res...
